RIP Dolly Parton

The following Emily Dickinson poem is in Dolly Parton's autobiography:

If I can stop one Heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain
If I can ease one Life the Aching
Or cool one Pain

Or help one fainting Robin
Unto his Nest again,
I shall not live in Vain.

Dolly Parton's market E-score (engagement score) for popularity is a perfect 100, the highest of any celebrity. A large part of this appeal was the ethos of kindness that Parton lived by, which is summed up beautifully here by Dickinson.

The poem takes the measure of both artists and I think it is fair to say that neither lived in Vain.
